He wanted to reach out and touch her, brush a hand against her cheek, cradle her face in his hands. He started to, but drew back, knowing better than to overstep his friendzone limits. “Nothing would ever be precious enough to even fit your place in the first place,” he grinned down at her.

Those eyes drove him mad. An open door to shield that masked her thoughts, her motives, her intentions. He wanted inside her brain sometimes, to see what caused her blushing smile, or light laugh, or even a dissolving grin. He wanted to know her in every way possible. He craved that.

“S’ides,” he exhaled, lacing his fingers behind his head, “I’m not mentally coherent enough to even begin to consider that. You’re one in a billion, Brooklyn. Honestly.”

Brooklyn had to blink a few times to clear her head. A million thoughts flew in all at once and she hated it when that happened. “I’m not mentally coherent either.” She said, because it was the only thing that seemed relevant. “Let’s be crazy together.” She smiled, somewhat confused.

She wasn’t confused at what she’d said. She was confused because after she had blinked and looked at Chase again, she didn’t see the adorable best friend she usually saw. In all honesty, Brooklyn wasn’t sure what she saw. It was Chase, but something had changed in the way she looked at him.

Whatever that something was made her wonder how on earth she got lucky enough to have someone this attractive as a best friend.

How she looked at him, it was a mixture of sweet sugar and pure cyanide. Chase felt his heart leap up into his throat. Evening time was setting in, and the light that peeked in from behind his curtains illuminated her flawless mocha skin, making the particles in the air look more like sparkles. She seemed even more heavenly.

“You know I’m always up for being crazy,” he grinned, curious what she had in mind. She was so unpredictable; he loved it. She kept him interested, busy, wondering. Such a thrill, a challenge that fueled him to press for more.

He locked eyes with her, hoping to find some hint within them. “What’ve you got in mind?”
